Moderation

(But, no-- not the kind I need!)

Mystic has offered me a word of advice over at his blog:

"I...suggest to you that if you do not want to have parts of your life discussed then don't post them for everyone to see and produce a comment section for peoples responses."

As such, I've turned on "comments moderation." I will try to check for comments as frequently as possible and will post nearly everything submitted, but you'll all now have to suffer a short delay from after you write your comment until it actually appears.

I apologize for the inconvenience and hope that it won't keep you guys quiet!

That's it for now...

It may be wise advice, but if that's the problem, is comment moderation really the answer? I sort of think that it's a case of 'in for a penny, in for a pound'. If you are going to post up the details of your life in a blog, then you may almost just as well have the comments left on. You will still see all comments submitted anyway. If you don't like them, delete them or switch comments off entirely. This is a bit of an uncomfortable halfway house, isn't it?

hmmm.

plus I find it weird when you submit a comment and it doesn't appear!

ST--

A "halfway house" may be appropriate at this point. But, there are no rules in this game. I could post every detail of my life and allow NO comments... Or I could post nothing about my personal self and allow ALL comments.

I'm sorry if you are uncomfortable with the "halfway house." But in the end, it matters what I'M comfortable with...

And right now, I just need a little more control. I've made myself too vulnerable. I've made myself too vulnerable all around...

I guess, talk to you later...

no, no... I'm not mad at all! I'm just pleased you're still here at all. I'm not 'uncomfortable' with it, I was just musing on it as a concept really, not how it makes me feel..... this is your blog, it's your life and I think you should be able to live it, and blog it, the way that you want to.

It's only weird when comments don't appear right away because it's not what I'm used to! It's not weird in itself, and I'm sure I'll get over it.

You do what you need to do. I'll still be here, offering you the dubious benefit of my gnomic 'wisdom'.

Okay, ST, you just sent me on a chase to find out what "gnomic" meant since the thought that first popped into my head was "gnome-like" and that just didn't seem to fit you!

swisslet said...

like a gnome? not really. Did the actual definition fit better with your image of me then Spins?

blimey - I seem to be commenting a lot on a post about moderating comments, don't I?

The real meaning suited you much better.
